Virtual Teams – Intercultural Team Training

Intercultural Seminars

Working and communicating successfully in multinational virtual teams

Successful international collaboration is not just a matter of language skills. Proficiency in English is a necessary basis for efficient global communication, but the competent deployment of communication tools such as e-mail, chat and webmeeting is a prerequisite too – and so is intercultural competence.

This state-of-the-art intercultural communication training is designed to prepare and/or improve multinational collaboration. It adresses the cultural challenges which arise in communicating and collaborating in multicultural teams and global enterprises. Another focus lies on long-distance communication via channels like e-mail, chat and web conference, which can prove a major challenge for international business enterprises.

The training aims to impart to the participants a basic intercultural competence together with the necessary media competence. This will save the participants considerable time in their future everyday working routines and will help to prevent (cross-cultural) misunderstandings.

Practical issues form the focus of this seminar. Prior to the training, participants receive a questionnaire that enables them to describe their current situation and their expectations regarding the training. This makes it possible to discuss and work on concrete difficulties in the participants‘ everyday working life.

You will …

  • … receive an introduction to the basics of intercultural communication
  • … be introduced to different Culture Dimensions and learn how German culture is positioned in comparison to other cultural regions.
  • … learn what Germans in particular have to be aware of, and pay attention to, when it comes to international collaboration
  • … be made aware of how culturally different perspectives can enrich their personal outlook and be turned into success factors in an international virtual team
  • … perfect your professional and solution-oriented use of contemporary communication media such as e-mail, chat, telephone and webmeeting
  • … learn how you can establish a relationship of trust with persons you never meet face-to-face.

On completing the training you will have gained greater security in long-distance intercultural communication. You will be able to recognise potential misunderstandings before they become problems and to deploy contemporary communication media systematically and competently.

Methods and concept

We work with both theme-focused and experience-building training elements. The training foregrounds intercultural sensitisation and competence as well as media competence. Using reflecting and activating group exercises, we will develop the practical competences necessary for international virtual collaboration.
