Training to Become an Intercultural Coach/Trainer in 5 Modules PDF Print E-mail
Target groups: Employees at businesses, organizations, and institutions of higher education which are involved in the area of intercultural education; entrepreneurs; executives; trainers who want to qualify as an instructor or seminar leader for the qualification of specific target groups.
Each participant receives a handout for each module with all materials presented. Additional information will be made available through an E-learning module. The Institute for Intercultural Didactics (Registered Association) is an officially accredited provider of training and qualification (§ 1 Para. 2, see also §§ 9-11 IQVO) from the Institute for Quality Development in Wiesbaden. Participants receive an IKUD Certification as an intercultural coach/trainer upon completion of this course.

Module 1: Competences
Length: Four days

Effective adult and continuing education means more than just acquiring information. Learning is a holistic process, which can be demanding for the instructor. Knowledge transfer, therefore, is also an important aspect for an intercultural coach or trainer. Because of this, the introduction to our training course is a module with an introduction to general didactic principles. Contents of this module include the following elements, among others:

-Foundations of learning (relaying information) and practical consequences of course creation
-Information processing in the brain
-Basic principles of didactics: structures/orientation, demonstrations, visualizations, drawing connections, making objectives clear
-Development of the initial stage in a seminar
-Short presentations on specific topics
-Use of media in seminars
-Planning one’s own learning units and entry phase
-Dealing with learning disabilities or disturbances
-Constructing a training outline/lesson plan
-Implementation of the training outline: putting theory to practice, situation training
-Planning and reflection on technical requirements of the planned training
-Adaptation of exercises
-Training simulations

Module 2: Introduction to Intercultural Training Methods

Length: Two days

The second module serves as an introduction to fundamentals and basic principles in the area of intercultural communication. Proven training elements, which can be used later in one’s own seminars, will be presented.

In this module, the following points will be highlighted:

-    Overview of the particular methods of intercultural training,
-    Introduction to the theoretical and practical foundations of intercultural training,
-    Practical exercises for the particular methods, including: critical incidents, the culture assimilator, case studies, communication exercise, and simulations,
-    Preparation of selected and reliable training material,
-    Practical instruction on how to apply the training material.

Module 3: Designing an Intercultural Training Module
Length: Two days

The objective of the third module is the development of training modules and programs for specific target groups. This competence in design and development is a precondition for trainers and coaches who wish to work in the intercultural sector; simultaneously these abilities are commonly expected of employees within the scope of their organizations, businesses, or projects. A conceptual composition of such courses and programs is required so that it:

-    can be combined with realistic target conceptions,
-    can be created with target groups and requirements in mind,
-    is united with creative and motivational elements, and
-    can be economically implemented.

During the workshop, ideas for training, courses, and programs will be developed and worked out, either alone, or with partners with the same aims and goals. At the same time, you will receive methodic guidance particularly relating to the following exercises:

-    1) Analysis of target group;
-    2) Analysis of requirements, competencies, and learning targets;
-    3) Creation and organization of sequences for particular training modules;
-    4) Selection and development of training methods and materials;
-    5) Possibilities for integrating E-learning into the program;
-    6) Program evaluation.

In addition to introductory and supplementary short lectures and intensive guidance on an individual basis on the topic, there will be an information table with further information and publications.

Module 4: Designing Intercultural Training Simulations and Case Study Method (Training materials)
Length: Three days

The fourth module consists of two blocks. In the first block (two days), simulations and roll-playing games are presented and implemented. In the second block (one day), the participants develop their own concepts. The following will be discussed:

First Block

-    After a short introduction to the topic, certain established simulation games will be presented (Barnga, Bafa-Bafa, Markhall, Modis & Trados, Clues & Challenges, Ecotonos, as well as the Five Culture Game, which has been developed by IKUD).
-    Depending on the number of participants and time limits, participants will take part in a selection of simulation games and roll-playing games for intercultural training.
-    In addition to the established simulations (see above), we also present simulations and roll-playing games developed in-house at the Institute for Intercultural Didactics.
-    Additionally, we offer diverse communication exercises.

Second Block

-    The participants form small groups and, with guidance from the instructors, develop their own concepts for simulation games, keeping in mind the requirements of their own target groups and institutions.
-    The didactic methods needed for the implementation of the discussed material will also be presented.
-    An information table with additional theoretical and practical resources will be  available during breaks.

Module 5: Evaluation and Certification
Length: Two days
Date:

Participants present their training modules, which they have developed over the course of the training program. Each participant presents his or her project. Feedback and tips as well as a detailed summary follow. In addition, participants will learn steps and strategies for implementation of their projects. All participants receive an IKUD Certification as an intercultural coach/trainer at the end of the last day.

The seminar fee amounts to 3,400 € (tax free)
